Hi there! I’m Hunter. I’m a mother of an almost two-year-old daughter, married to my British husband, and we live in Northwest Florida along the beautiful white, sandy beaches. I share about sacred & slow living as well as my own personal journey in motherhood. Make sure to subscribe to have my posts delivered directly to your inbox. Thank you for being here.
Hello friends! How is it Thursday already? This is one of those weeks that feels like it’s FLOWN BY for me. I’ve just had my head down doing those daily tasks and then looked up and can’t believe the week is almost over.
How are things going for you? Are you taking the time to lean into autumn and really feel that cozy energy? The weather has started to cool here in Florida, and I’ve even had to put a sweater on for the morning dog walk which feels incredible. I just love this time of the year. I’ve got some fun simple things I’m excited to share with you today. Let’s dive in.
I know the whole thing about candles supposedly being bad for you, but I literally cannot stop burning them, especially around this time of year. The VIBES they bring is the ultimate hygge and it’s too good to pass up. I do try to stick with non-toxic candles (unless a really great-smelling one at Target pops up), and I’ve been loving my P.F. Candle Co. candles this season. They nail the moody, woodsy, autumnal-smelling candles and are so nice to have around. I’m currently burning this one as I type.
Another thing that is making my space extra cozy is my salt lamp. I’ve been turning it on each morning in my office and leaving it on until before I go to bed and it just makes the nicest ambiance. Salt lamps are supposed to be really good for our energy too, and provide negative ions to help neutralize electromagnetic radiation that comes from our phones, computers, tv’s, etc.
I am an avid collector of journals, it’s one of those things I always buy when traveling or for any special occasion. So now I just have way too many. I’ve been slowly trying to get my regular journaling practice back up (I talk about journaling regularly in this post) and it feels so good to get my thoughts onto the page. I love the inner focus that journaling brings, how you can only write as fast as your hand can draw the words, and the silence that encompasses the space. Is there anything you obsessively collect?
I’ve been tracking some time in the car this week. I had a few photoshoots that were farther out than normal and my husband had a job that required him to be at a few sites that were an hour or so away. He doesn’t drive so I’ve been his chauffeur this week. All the time in the car has been nice because I’ve been able to get through some podcasts I’ve wanted to listen to. I love how when you’re driving there are no other distractions and you can just listen to the words of wisdom whoever you’re listening to is sharing. I’ve had so many aha moments and time for introspection and it’s been really good for my self-care. A few of my favorite podcasts lately have been this one about spirit babies, this one about magick & our periods, this one about the reality of changing careers, this one about the path of the Priestess, and this one about bioenergetic nutrition.
I loved reading
’s thoughts on her current phase of life where living slower isn’t a priority (or option). I think so many people get caught up in slow living being the actual process of living slow all the time, and for me, that’s just not even remotely what slow living is about. Slow living is about bringing presence to every aspect of our lives and recognizing that our energy will always be fluctuating and our capacity for growth will always be shifting. We have so many seasons both within us and within our lives, and it’s about weaving the presence of slow living into all the seasons, especially the busy ones. I loved Jodie’s honesty about where she is at and how she’s planning on moving forward. It was a great read for those of us who strive to live a “perfectly” slow life but don’t always get it right or in the way we think it needs to look.
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
I love candles, but the scented ones tend to make me cough- so I started picking unscented candles, and trying to enjoy seasonal colours instead! Right now, my morning candles are sage green, which I find a very soothing colour.
As for slow living, I have to agree- it really isn’t about being slow (sometimes the pace of life around us makes this impossible) but about taking a moment here or there to appreciate the here and now, and be present. For me, this is reflected in watching the tree frog in our hummingbird feeder moat, or the bunny munching grass in the garden; it’s about breathing in that cool morning air, appreciating the way my bed looks freshly made, or lighting the candles first thing and enjoying the glow. When my kids were small, it was watching the baby sleep, enjoying a cuddle, or listening to their stories about the caterpillars/bugs/leaves or whatever they’d found in the garden ( I even have some of these illustrated/written in my old sketch journals).
Loved the recommendations! I agree with the slow-living, it is not something that is to be measured by perfectionist standards, I feel like that’s the point in moving away from the “hustle culture”.. ending the perfectionism mindset.. it’s about being more present and listening to our intuition to guide us into what we NEED rather than what society expects of us, and it is hard.. it definitely not some quick ascetically pleasing IG post that we should aspire to!
Also...yes to salt lamps and journaling!! 🙌🏻
