I’m currently writing from an unfamiliar mindset. My daughter, Maverick, has only woken up twice for the last two nights, and (dare I say it) I think the molars have come in, the sleep regression has left, or whatever was waking her up 4 to 6 times a night for the last few months is over. I don’t remember what life was like this clear-headed and awake, but I’m happy to be here. 🤣
I feel like superwoman these days, so have been finally catching up on posting sessions from the summer over on my photography Instagram page. I’ve gone back and forth forever about whether I was going to “promote” my work or not, trying to decide if I really wanted to go all in on my photography business, and just decided to go for it and see what unfolds. If you’re local to where I live (the Florida panhandle), I’m currently booking fall mini sessions. And since I know a lot of you are in the UK, I am coming over there for two weeks around Christmas and would love to do some sessions while there! Just reach out and we can come up with a plan :)
Okay, that’s enough of a rundown from me, let’s dive into this week’s simple things…
I have been accepted into a year-long priestess initiation program! It starts in January and I am so excited to dive into learning about being a priestess of the sacred feminine and deepen my own practice. I can’t wait to see how my creativity grows through the process as well, and will definitely be sharing my insights here.
Now that it’s October, we are officially in my daughter’s birthday month. I truly cannot believe she will be 2 on the 16th. It feels like yesterday she was born and a lifetime ago all at once. I can’t think about it too much right now or I’ll definitely break down crying. But gosh, I am so grateful for her and know that I am a completely different person (in a good way) with so much passion and excitement oozing out of me since the mother portal opened. What a gift it is to raise a child, especially this magical one.
Speaking of birthdays, I got this coffee machine for mine last month and have been completely obsessed with mastering the perfect at-home latte ever since. It’s basically a Nespresso but with biodegradable pods and sustainable coffee. I’ve been loving the espresso pods (the regular and decaf) and have been mixing them with frothed oat milk or raw milk if I have it, two teaspoons of sugar, a bloop of vanilla extract, and a few pinches of cinnamon. SO yum.
This post by
was such a good read. She speaks on motherhood & creative endeavors perfectly. I felt like she reached into the depths of my soul and pulled out all the words I’d been longing to say. It was beautiful and I couldn’t stop nodding in agreement with every word.I also loved this post from
about writing as ritual and her relationship with a particular writing book. It made me want to get back into daily journaling (she’s been going 946 days in a row!) and realized the importance of writing for ourselves first. She also shares some really great prompts and insights into beginning a daily writing practice. I absolutely loved it.
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
Oh the Priestess journey sounds incredible! Can’t wait to see where that guides you to! Happy birth month to Maverick and to you also! 2 years is a radical shift as a Mama xxxx
Such a fab five things and so pleased to hear about the sleep improvement, that feeling of clarity from a good night’s sleep is a wonder! I love Kat’s concept of mother maker and have it bookmarked to go back and read again (so much goodness to catch up on in my brimming Substack inbox!) xx
