We arrived home from our trip to Denver with colds. Both Maverick and I are stopped up and coughing. I always believe when you get sick, it’s your body trying to tell you to take space, slow down, and nourish yourself. So, I’ve been drinking lots of tea, putting all my herbal remedies into orange juice for both of us, and Maverick has been camped out on the couch watching movies. It’s been exactly what we needed after a busy, yet very fulfilling, week visiting my sister.
For this week’s simple things, I wanted to be more literal. In the past, I’ve shared links to things and experiences I’ve been loving, but today I want to actually share with you 5 completely magical and mundane things I’ve noticed this week. Let’s dive in.
The crisp cool air when I first stepped out onto the porch in Denver every morning. It felt like nature speaking to me, saying good morning and welcoming us to the day ahead.
The feeling of starting a new book, just because, and knowing it’s going to be a good one. I’ve been reading non-fiction pretty much exclusively all year, so decided to try getting back into reading fiction and already it’s brought me so much joy.
The delightful babbling of an almost two-year-old. Maverick has yet to talk, but I feel like she’s getting closer every day. Now she’s in full-on babbling mode and it’s the sweetest sound in the world. I can’t wait to hear her say Mama for the first time.
The taste of a warm cup of tea after a week of coffee. My sister has a Nespresso which I’d been using religiously for the week, but I realized after getting home that I really missed my cups of tea with honey and oat milk. That first sip back was special.
The camaraderie with other parents, especially when traveling. As I laid Maverick on the changing table in a bustling airport restroom, a fellow mom looked over at me as she was tucking her little one back into the carrier and said, “Are you surviving?” I replied, “Barely” half-jokingly after just narrowly avoiding a blowout disaster. She said, “Me too. We’ve got this. You’re doing great.” It was exactly what I needed to hear and made me so grateful for this shared experience.
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
I completely resonate with that joy of starting a new book -- embarking on that little voyage.
How beautiful! It's the little things that make a big impact. I always enjoy how nature almost casually shows her beauty. I am currently traveling Ireland and here I enjoy a good Shepherd's Pie. And water. Whether for drinking or in a river or as the ocean, water holds big big magic. 🙏 For me it is so beneficial to see the world through Love's eyes. 🥰
