Hi there! I’m Hunter. I’m a mother of a two-year-old daughter, married to my British husband, and we live in Northwest Florida along the beautiful white, sandy beaches. I share about sacred & slow living as well as my own personal journey in being a mother and a creative. Make sure to subscribe to have my posts delivered directly to your inbox. Thank you for being here.
Hello, there! I always love writing these posts because they feel very informal and like I’m just chatting with a good friend (you!) over a cup of tea. It’s so fulfilling to move through the week and think about magically mundane moments I can add to these posts. I’ve been contemplating on how I could evolve this series a bit, so I’d love it if you have any feedback on what you like about this series, maybe what you feel might be missing, or any other insight here. And with that, onto this week’s simple things.
We have had one of those unusual weeks here in Florida where the rain has drizzling endlessly, but it always brings me back to my time living in England. There were actually so many beautiful sunny days when I was there, but I really reveled in the rainy days. There’s something about the gloom that feels like I’m in a little cocoon at home, and my creativity always soars on these days. So I’ve been enjoying it.
Maverick’s favorite activity is coloring. My friend gave her this massive paper banner for her birthday to color on and she’s spent at least an hour a day coloring away on it. I’ve enjoyed spending time with her in this way, just coloring and seeing how her own creativity comes through. It’s been such a special way for us to spend quality time together.
My grandmother has had a tough few months and is currently living with my parents (which is right next door), so I’ve been spending loads of time with her. I find myself grounded while sitting and listening to her stories. In the past, I would kind of nod a lot and then move on to the next thing when she would share. But now that she’s been sick and her memory is going in and out, each time she speaks I try to be completely present and listen. It’s been a beautiful time, and seeing the relationship she and Maverick have created has been heartwarming. I’m currently in the midst of writing about this multi-generational living set-up we’re currently in and the magic I’ve found in seeing my daughter with multiple generations of family. I hope to get it published in the next few weeks.
I really loved this post from
on how Slow Living Is Destroying Our Productivity. She used the term, “radical slow living” and it was such an aha moment for me. I’ve been trying to figure out where I fit within the slow living culture as I’m not someone who subscribes to the traditional way of implementing slow living. In the article, Stacey says, “Rather than chucking our work ethic to the wind, the Slow Movement provides us with the tools to build a relationship with our work - whether necessary or chosen - that is deeply nourishing and has the potential to build a real sense of meaning and purpose often missing from our lives.” I couldn’t agree more.- was such a beautiful essay on the magic between autumn and winter, as Molly lives in the Scottish highlands and experiences a rather quick autumn season. Reading her essay felt like a magical introduction to the winter season. Even though I have a lot more of autumn ahead, I can feel the energy of going inward rising strongly as a collective. I just love these changing seasons.
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
Thank you for the mention lovely! I still love reading these posts. Maybe if you wanted to mix them up a bit you could add some advice on how your readers could simplify their lives or notice and enjoy their own simple moments? Just a suggestion 😊
I really enjoy your writing. My magical mundane of the week. Playing board games with the family. I've been working on living slowly too and finding my spot with it. This week I only thought 3 yoga classes not 5 and loved all the space it brought
