Hi there! I’m Hunter. I’m a mother of a two-year-old daughter, married to my British husband, and we live in Northwest Florida along the beautiful white, sandy beaches. I share about sacred & slow living as well as my own personal journey in being a mother and a creative. Make sure to subscribe to have my posts delivered directly to your inbox. I’m so glad you’re here.
Hello to you from the snowy town of Telluride, Colorado. We are currently enjoying a week in the snow, and it’s Maverick’s first time seeing it. I still think she might get it confused with our white sand at home, but she’s having a blast. It’s been so nice to take some time in a different environment, away from the usual day-to-day, and spend quality time with family. I hope you’ve been able to do something special during this new year energy, even if it’s just diving into a good book to transport you somewhere new. Speaking of books… here’s this week’s Simple Things.
I have finally gotten sucked into Fourth Wing after seeing so many good reviews about it but struggling to really get into it until about 20% of the way through. Now, I can’t even put it down. I am someone who religiously falls asleep early each night, but it’s so good I’ve been staying up past my bedtime (who is she?!) to read. I am about 70% done now and am so happy there’s a second book I can dive into straight away. Have you read Fourth Wing? I might get chastised for this, but I think I like it better than ACOTAR. I know, I know. My fellow reading buddy said, “those are fighting words!” when I texted her about it last night.
Maverick turned two in October and still isn’t saying many words, but this week we’ve started to see some huge progress with her speech. She loves to say, “moo” for cow and that’s pretty much been the extent of it until now. But over the last few days, she’s started saying, “help,” “mama,” “dada,” and even said “Blue!” when I turned on the TV this morning and Blue’s Clues popped up. It’s such a reminder to me that every person is unique and my beautiful, smart daughter is no exception. She’s on her own time frame and we are absolutely loving seeing the growth in her while also celebrating her for exactly who she is.
I watched the snowflakes fall for what felt like hours yesterday, and I loved seeing the unique intricacies of each one. Did you know that no two snowflakes have the same design? Such a beautiful reminder of how unique we all are, just as I mentioned about Maverick. The snow here is just stunning to watch, and seeing the mountains and trees covered in it feels like we’re in our own beautiful snow globe.
When I was living in England, my husband taught me about magpies for the first time. He told me, “one for sorrow, two for joy” and how seeing two magpies together brought good luck because they mate for life. I’ve never noticed before but there are magpies here in Telluride, and I keep seeing two fly around together. It feels like we’re piling on the good luck these days.
I really enjoyed reading this educational article from
on the roots of where the “pro-metabolic diet” came from and the inaccuracies represented. I’ve personally fallen into the whole pro-metabolic world coming from a very restrictive diet to embracing more whole foods again, and not all of them healthy habits. So reading this and seeing the whole picture has been a really beautiful process for me. I’ve also been exploring this through the Rooted Families course Kori Meloy teaches (ironically, her first course I took was on the pro-metabolic diet) and learning about taking sovereign responsibility for my own health & family. It’s been super eye-opening for me and this share from Kaya was another key to unlocking more.
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
Telluride looks so beautiful! I lived in Denver for two years in my 20s, and one of my *biggest* regrets is not making the journey to visit that part of Colorado. And how exciting about Maverick's new words – I'm only three months into motherhood and already so stressed by milestones (thanks, TikTok algorithm), this is such a sweet and timely reminder that our little ones are indeed all on their own unique, beautiful timelines 🤍
Our youngest is 2.5 and just beginning to use more than a few words. Our oldest was an earlier talker, but the youngest just wanted to move and follow his sister! It's so great seeing what they value and watching them learn at their own pace.
