I’m currently drinking earl grey tea and honey out of my Mother F*cking Manifestors Club mug and trying to rub my eyes awake after another long night with the little one. She went swimming yesterday and I think got some water in her ears, so woke up super upset at 2am and took a while to get back to sleep. I’ve learned the true meaning of sleep deprivation since becoming a mother, but of course, wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I’ve really enjoyed writing this week’s simple things, and it’s always fun for me to look back on the past week and what I’ve been up to. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them, and I always try to include some things you can incorporate into your own life whether it’s a recipe, or new workout idea, or just some inspiring letters I’ve come across. With that being said, onto this week’s simple things list…
I have loved reading everyone’s newsletters this week on Substack. Two of my favorites were Claire from
with Notes From The Sea. She talked about how she’s become a slow lived entrepreneur and how that impacts her work, and I loved the journal prompts she included. My other favorite newsletter from the week was Sophie from on Rest and Guilt. I completely related to her talking about resting as a ‘tough subject’ for us self-employed and loved how she was able to lean into rest and see how it changed her experience with work (even if it was because of a horrible headache). Hope you’re feeling better now, Sophie!I baked a vegan lemon pound cake this week and it was so delicious. We’ve been snacking on it for days now. On that note, my husband and I have been having an
argumentdiscussion about sweet treats for breakfast. He loves donuts, but he refuses to eat them for breakfast and says they are just a sweet that you have for like dessert or in the middle of the day. I, on the other hand, grew up thinking that donuts were only a breakfast thing. What’s your stance on donuts for breakfast?I’ve been doing photography for years now, but this year is the first time I’ve actively shared that I am offering sessions rather than just word of mouth through friends. After a quiet first few months, I’ve gotten so many inquiries this month which has been equally exciting and overwhelming. I am eager to see how it plays out this year, and can’t wait to document more families and events. If you’re local and want to book a session, visit my website here.
Maverick is getting really close to walking. Her pediatrician said if she’s not walking by her next appointment, which is April 18th, she’ll have to start physical therapy. Of course there’s nothing wrong with her going if that’s what she needs, but she’s so stinking close that I’ve made it my personal mission to get her walking by the appointment. She takes 3 or 4 steps from the couch to the coffee table over and over again or walks with just one of my fingers holding her, but will not just let go and do it. Send us happy walking vibes this week, please!
We finally have a new dishwasher, and it’s the little things, you know? While I actually enjoyed the meditative act of hand washing everything for a few weeks, there’s something quite nice about just chucking it all in a little machine to wash for you. Not having a dishwasher definitely made me slow down and savor the time standing in front of the sink, looking out the window, humming a song, and washing sippy cup after sippy cup. But, the convenience of a brand new fancy dishwasher is pretty nice, too, not going to lie. I had a friend whose dryer broke the same week so she was hanging out all her clothes on a clothesline, and we’d commiserate on our slow living lifestyles and how much we actually enjoyed doing these simple yet fulfilling tasks. Is there something you can do easily but actually enjoy doing the ‘hard’ way more?
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
Simply sitting in the bed and petting a tiny dog 🐶 that I’m caring for this week. He is joined by an overweight and anxious female. Love them both. Since it’s been years of having a baby in my arms, I am savoring the warmth and the calming presence. Simple things indeed. 😊🐾
Ahh the washing up! Part of my morning routine is emptying our dishwasher while the kettle boils. Then it’s onto coffee prep. We used to have a whistling kettle so it was a focused race against the whistle - like a fun challenge! It’s felt strange being away from all that on holiday!
So donuts! Never had the opportunity to eat them for breakfast BUT I would imagine that would be SO nice! For me they’ve been a holiday food or hot from a vending van on a walk round the markets. 😋
Luna was around 16 months when she walked she did three steps to the gate of the park and then didn’t bother again for a couple of weeks. It’s such magic 🪄 sending you all the stable vibes for this week.
Thanks SO SO much for the shout out - it means the word. ✨💜🪄
