It’s hard to believe we’re already in May. I think every year I get older the years also start to pass more quickly. This year has been no exception. We’ve had the most beautiful weather the last few weeks so have been spending as much time outside as we can. Now that Maverick’s walking, we’ve been going on little walks around the block each day and it’s my new favorite thing. It’s so special to see her exploring the world and noticing things I would otherwise pass by without a thought. Our walks bring me back into the present moment and I love that. How has your week been? Have you been getting nice spring weather too? I’d love to hear about it!
And now, onto this week’s simple things…
When I get excited about something, I really get obsessed with it for a bit. Last week I talked about Kori Meloy’s online course on the pro-metabolic lifestyle. I’m still kind of in the learning phase of it, but I’ve been exploring so much about sovereignty in my own body and really leaning into my needs. I have been reading Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (and just started reading her baby & child book too). I’ve also been loving following @iamaltar and @wildlyonswellness on Instagram who both speak on metabolic & women’s health. It’s just a fascinating topic I’m learning so much about, and especially since I’m raising a daughter, I want to be mindful of what I pass on to her.
We ate dinner outside on one of the windier days, and sure enough, the next morning Maverick woke up with a horrible cold. Obviously, the cold isn’t a ‘simple thing I love’, but being able to comfort her and know she feels completely supported and safe as she’s sick is the best feeling in the world. We’ve been getting all the snuggles in and I’ve been loading her up with remedies & tinctures. Thankfully, she slept amazing last night and woke up way less stuffy so hopefully, the worst is behind us. My favorite tinctures are from Earthley Wellness. She takes the sleepy time tincture every night, and I’ve been putting a few drops of the Immune-Biotic in her orange juice (as well as taking it myself to stay healthy!). I need to order Feel Better Fast as that’s supposed to be really good too.
I love making big pots of cozy meals for dinner, and I’ve been on the hunt for a good chili recipe for a while. I feel like I’ve tried everything, but haven’t really nailed one down, until now. I tried this chili recipe the other night and it was SO good. Super simple ingredients, but the flavor was amazing. Adding the tomato purée before the meat was a game-changer, for sure. Definitely give it a try if you’re a chili fan.
I’m really excited that Letters From A Hopeful Creative is back, and the podcast is now hosted exclusively on Substack, which is very exciting! Each week, listeners send in questions on small business & creativity, and the hosts, Sara and Jen, answer in the most thoughtful way.
I have loved reading Lauren’s substack, The Mother Well, lately. She writes so eloquently and puts such thoughtful discussion points in her posts. I especially loved listening to her reflections on devotional motherhood. We feel very similar, and I love finding likeminded mamas to connect with.
And there you have it! I’d love to know what magically mundane thing you’ve experienced this week that has brought you joy.
Aw beautiful Hunter.
Here’s to eating al fresco and lovely Substack comfort blankets. 🥂
Oh my heart did a flip flop of joy when I saw you mention my writings... so honoured and grateful! Thank you... and I’m so happy you enjoyed the little spontaneous audio!
I adored the stage when we just started going out for little walks around the local area. These little beings see so much that we would miss! Seeing the world through their eyes is the greatest gift! Hope Maverick feels better... those tinctures sound wonderful! I do love a potion!!! X
