This is beautifully written 🌸 I see feminism in exactly the same way - Honoring our biology and our natural rhythm’s. Understanding that we are different than men’s and that is not a limitation, I see it very empowering. Nature is perfect, our differences have a reason and creates balance. We can have the same rights and still do things differently.
Some very much needed clearheaded thinking, thank you for writing this. I came into the workforce in the first age of feminism, and the stakes were so high, we were focused on proving ourselves in traditionally male careers (I was a chemical engineer). I was fortunate that I could stay out of the grind for 9 years while my boys were young, but the local economic climate put my husband's job at risk and I was in the workforce after that until the day I retired. I remember working at a client to install a new financial system and my period was so bad I was bleeding onto the floor of their restroom. My two male coworkers thought I was going to pass out while running the final testing. Madness! Why did I demand this of myself?
So, take the rest you need and deserve. I love, love, love that this is becoming part of feminism for a new generation. Blessings to all of you!
Oh wow, thank you so much Jo for sharing your experience. And as a chemical engineer, what an accomplishment!!
I think it was less about you 'doing it to yourself' and more about that unfortunate fact that we don't have the support in the workforce as females to work differently. You know what I mean? I certainly hope that changes.
I love all that feminism has given women, and I'm so excited for the future as we embrace our feminine nature more!
What a beautiful post. So lovely to read this words especially today!
I have my period today too. Luna’s been up since 3.30am which never happens and I just don’t feel I can do any of the jobs well - home, work, being her mum, even the garden is looking at me saying don’t bother...
It’s all there until another day and I can just be and sit and wait a little and hope someone else makes dinner and that’s enough for today isn’t it. 🍃✨
Thank you for sharing your journey into your cycle awareness. It resonates with what I came into about four years ago. Interestingly enough it was authors Miranda Grey of Optimized Woman and Alexand Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer of Wild Power all women from the UK that took me deep within my own journey of cyclic living. I am forever grateful to have stumbled into this awareness, especially as I am in the throws of perimenopause. From this awareness as you described as well, we can move at a pace that our bodies have designed for us. We no longer have to try to be the same person everyday, but rather shift through the four dynamic energies of our inner seasons, growing us in wisdom. I fought myself for years to adapt to the masculine energy and it depleted me. The more we open this conversation the more balance we will bring between the masculine yang and the feminine yin within us and outside us as well. Thank you. Thank you! More and more of us are seeing and healing!
I love this, Jess! I love that you've been on this journey for so long, too. How special those women are! It seems like once you open that portal into learning about cyclical living, there is no going back and the guides are laid out for you. I've discovered so many expanders since beginning this journey of incredible women (and some men too!) leading the charge in this sphere. I can't wait to continue to learn!!
Thank you for sharing your insight too into the masculine energy and the yin and yang. It's such an interesting conversation, isn't it? I feel like I could chat about it all for hours!
I’ve been saving this in my inbox as I knew from the very first line I wanted to sit and read it properly!! I feel so so so resonant with it all... it’s honouring the cyclical way that not only our body’s work... but how our creativity, our energy, our emotions... how it is all non linear and that is what makes it magical!!! The spiralling! I actually miss my bleed time and my cycle... I’m still breastfeeding... so haven’t bled for over a year now and those ebbs and flows have so much wisdom within them! It’s an unlearning to live in this way and to love slowly... I feel I have to practice it every day as it’s so deeply engrained in me to move at pace (plus I’m an MG so there is a certain need for multi-tasking) but Motherhood has forced me to slow down and I love it! I was actually thinking how much of a gift it is that my baby will only sleep in the sling for most of her naps because it forces me to do everything at a completely slow pace. I could write a whole post in these comments!! Beautiful beautiful writing! Thank you! Xxxx
Oh my goodness, Lauren, I loved reading this comment from you! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and write such a thoughtful response. It truly means so much to me.
I love how you described our cycles as non-linear, that is absolutely on point!! And makes it so beautiful for sure. I totally get the not bleeding for over a year, mine came back around 6 months postpartum, but I do have to say I didn't really miss it. Haha. from what I've read, if we aren't currently having a cycle we can follow the moon phases and really tune in with that, and it'll reflect in us the same ebbs and flows throughout the month.
I feel like we've talked about this before, but I'm an MG too so I totally get the need for multi-tasking! And I think it's a totally acceptable thing for us to do when we're in the flow and feeling super aligned with it. It's when we're forcing ourselves to do many things out of habit or guilt that we need to take a step back.
Enjoy the sling snuggles!! Mine no longer likes to be in the sling sadly but I still get nighttime cuddles which I love. These little ones teach us so much about slowing down and being in the moment, don't they?
Thank you again for being here, I truly cherish your energy in this space! Xx
Ahhh the nighttime cuddles are the best! Totally agree… as an MG with an undefined root I have to really check in with that pressure and urge to do all the things and make sure it’s not burning me out! That’s been a massive life lesson!!
And yes the lunar cycle is definitely my guide at the moment! And nature, and the seasons… all of it guides us I think!
"...if we aren't currently having a cycle we can follow the moon phases and really tune in with that, and it'll reflect in us the same ebbs and flows throughout the month." Thank you for this! I am post-menopausal and this is the answer I've been looking for for years! Love this whole topic!
This was an incredibly inspirational read ✨ Thankyou so much lovely for sharing and being vulnerable!! I LOVED it all 💜 it truely touched a part deep in my soul xx
Casey, thank you so much for this sweet comment!! It truly made me have the biggest smile. It did feel vulnerable to share, and I'm so glad it's been received well & as helpful. I'm so grateful it touched you in some way!!
Just wow, I am feeling the same way as you today. Cramps, slow mornings and I was actually feeling guilty for being slow, not going to the gym, etc.. No doubt that the universe has very funny ways to communicate, this time the universes touched me through you... Thanks a lot for that!
SO grateful you came across my post! I hope you're able to really listen to your body and take the rest you need in this sacred time of the month. Sending love!
Ooh I just love this post, so beautifully written and relatable. I also took time today to reflect on my own journey towards slow living. But you’ve now got me thinking about it in being a woman and motherhood Thank you 🤍
I'm so happy this spoke to you, Dawn. It's so interesting how interwoven our journey as women & motherhood is to the act of slow living. I love bridging that gap.
I love this concept so much. In my 20’s to early thirties I lived the patriarchal hustle life. After kids I’ve consciously slowed way down. The slow life for me is connecting to nature and living in the moment. I too hate over scheduling and I rarely do it. Thank you for the great read ❤️
This is an amazing post...I wish I could write like you and I wish that movement was also felt in the U.S. I grew up in France and still spend time there and I can tell you it’s the best reset time I can enjoy...living slow and enjoying every moment is the key to health and happiness...by the way, men live slow too in all of Europe...and I think that’s being more masculine than how men behave in the U.S....

Being a woman is so empowering, I love that you view it the same. ✨

This is incredibly powerful. Currently reading this on the first day of my period and feel so moved. Beautifully written and so true!
I'm so glad it resonated with you! Hope you're able to take it easy the next few days :)

Oh, also! Thank you for your page break sizing tip, I finally got them to work!!
Absolutely. You have more than enough time, just nourish yourself today. And maybe nap when (if?) Luna naps, as I just did with Maverick 😂.

Omg yes, so much to talk about! Maybe one day we will!
Hopefully we will!
This is a beautiful post, I really enjoyed it and nodded along all the way x

Absolutely!! So many rhythms in our life to guide us, I love it!

Such a beautiful and powerful reflection on feminism! I love the idea of slow living being a vitally feminist act. 🥰 Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, Jen. I'm so glad it resonated with you!

Beautiful post ✨✨✨
Love being a woman and unfolding all it means to be in our power x
This post Hunter... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️ Loved everything about it!
